16 in x 20 in
Acrylic on canvas
Following the sacrifice of her lover, queen Mengala, the most beautiful woman of the Muisca people, immersed in the Lagoon of Guatavita as the ultimate symbol of liberation and offering of true love. She, who was worth gold, will become one of the unreachable treasures. The legend states that she was dearly loved by all and became a goddess who received their offerings of gold in return for forgiveness and renewal of faith. From time to time she would appear on the surface of the lagoon.
The artist plays again with basic colors, light and shadows to create the mystical frame of this legend.
Is Mengala coming out of the water or is hse entering the water? What do you think?
